Things Recently Enjoyed in DC

Best Street in DC
Swann Street, NW: My favorite street in DC. Seriously, walk down it right now and fall in love with this city all over again. And then grab a cocktail on 14th Street.

Oh, hey there. For the past couple of weeks, I’ve been completely absent from this blog. First, work was busy, and then the nice weather made it impossible to sit down at the computer to write…one thing led to another and it  has almost been a month since my last post. Unacceptable.

The good news is that while I wasn’t writing, I was exploring DC and checking things off my Spring bucket list. Here are some things I’ve enjoyed recently.

I never knew Kingman Island existed until somebody invited me to a music festival there the other week. I can’t believe it has taken me so long to discover it. Luckily, Lingman Island is easy to get to and I can’t wait to go back for a picnic. Or steal someone’s dog for the day and take it for a walk around the island. Just take the X2 bus all the way down H Street to get there.

Pizza. I’ve been making a lot of pizza. I’ve found a dough recipe that is easy to make and pretty delicious. The past weekends have been devoted to watching dough rise (more fun than it sounds) and eating lots of pizza (just as fun as it sounds).

I was able to check out the latest exhibit at Hierarchy. I love stopping by the space and seeing new pieces by up-and-coming artists. The people watching is great as well. So many hipsters. It sometimes looks like a Portlandia sketch. But everyone has fun, the music is solid and the bar stocks local beer and liquor. You really can’t lose.

Nothing beats lazy mornings with lots of avocado, onions, capers and smoked salmon.

Compass Rose is one of my new favorite bars. Just a couple blocks away from my apartment, it is the perfect addition to the neighborhood. Much as been written about the khachapuri and for good reason. It’s delicious. Try it now.

The fountains are back on at Meridian Hill and it’s beautiful. Especially if you stop by Pleasant Pops for a treat after a jog.

As mentioned before, work has been busy. But there are certain perks to it all. Mainly eating in pretty rooms like this.
