This Saturday I went to see the cherry blossoms at peak bloom. Thinking I’d beat the crowds, I ran to the Tidal Basin at 6:30 a.m. Despite the early hour, there were lots of photographers and tourists awaiting the sunrise. I shouldn’t have been surprised – it makes sense that so many people would want to capture such a beautiful scene.

I made my way around the reservoir, dodging tourists with selfie sticks and couples posing for engagement photos, and took a few pictures on my iPhone. Here are some of my favorites.

  1. Such gorgeous photos! I tried to get there last year to see the cherry blossoms at their peak, but was a few days too late. Maybe one of these years… :) Thanks for sharing these photos!

  2. Now these are photos! I love the cherry blossoms, I just hate the start of tourist season! :( Don’t you wish the blossoms would bloom early as a “sneak peek” for us locals? That way we can enjoy them before the masses arrive!

  3. Omg…. The blossoms and the sunrise in the same frame…. Fantastic! Love your compositions.

You shouldn’t worry about the number of people you might have seen at sunrise coz when I arrived at noon, they out numbered the blossoms themselves ☺
