Confession: I had never been to the Midwest before this summer. As a Californian living on the East Coast, it was always a place to catch (or miss) a connecting flight. After visiting Chicago, I won’t make the mistake of thinking that the Midwest is flyover country ever again. I’m still swooning over the city’s amazing architecture and delicious food.
The first thing we did in Chicago (after settling into our Airbnb in Wicker Park) was head to Big Star for dinner. A taco restaurant with an extensive whiskey and tequila menu, it was the perfect place to unwind after our flight. Favorite part of the meal? The walking taco aka a taco in a Fritos bag. After dinner we explored the neighborhood, perused Myopic Books, and had a night cap at the Revel Room.
We spent the rest of the weekend walking, eating, and drinking our way through Chicago. Some favorite stops included Birchwood Kitchen and Dove’s Luncheonette for two stellar brunches, Three Dots and a Dash for festive tiki drinks, Violet Hour for craft cocktails, and Bavette’s for oysters. Here are a few more pictures from the trip.
Until next time, Chicago!
